Dr Stephen Kemp
Orthopaedic Surgeon
Hand & Upper Limb Specialist
Dr Stephen Kemp has over 25 years’ experience as a hand and upper limb surgeon. Having completed orthopaedic training locally, he engaged in an extra two years of sub-speciality training in hand surgery, microsurgery, arthroscopic surgery of the upper limb and open shoulder surgery before returning to Newcastle. He established Hunter Hand and Upper Limb Surgery in 1993 and continues to build expertise in this specialised area.
Dr Kemp prides himself on attention to detail and a comprehensive approach. He believes successful treatment rests on a careful accurate diagnosis, a high level of technical expertise and structured rehabilitation.
He regularly attends national and international meetings. He is an active member of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia, the Australian Hand Surgery Society and the NSW Hand Surgery Association.
Dr Kemp performs a full range of arthroscopic procedures as well as joint replacement of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. His staff will take time to help you through the complexities of our medical system and deal with workers compensation insurers on your behalf. He works closely with specialist hand and shoulder therapists, leading to a much more reliable outcome from both surgical and non‑surgical treatment.
